About Something Profound
Heyyy, I'm Sam — and this is Something Profound.
I'm born and bred Northumbrian living in the North East of England and proud of it. I live in the beautiful coastal village of Seahouses, Northumberland with my husband, my two kids, two dogs and Dad who lives so close were practically on each other's doorstep. Life is a whole lot of chaos — but it the good kind.
I have Multiple Sclerosis, and I'm a mum of a neurodiverse household. Between my MS diagnosis and navigating life with a neurodiverse family, I understand what it's like to do life differently, I don't really follow the rules! The exhaustion, the humour, the frustration, the joy — all of it. And that understanding is at the heart of every single thing Something Profound creates.
How it all started
Before Something Profound, I spent years working in hospitality. I loved it, chatting with customers, helping them enjoy their holiday or meal out, it was what I was good at — but when my MS diagnosis came in 2020(along with covid), it made me stop and rethink everything. What did I actually want to do? What would work around my health, my family and my life?
The answer eventually took me back to something I'd always loved. I studied fashion, life drawing and graphic design at college and absolutely loved every second of it. I didn't miss a day (not like high school, I was definitely a 'school refuser') and I had already had a clothing brand called 'The Big Lad' in 2007 and me and my Dad traveled the country going to body building shows selling our clothes. But being a Mum of two by 2010 I decided I needed to be at home. So in 2023 I began creating designs, mostly out of the frustration I was feeling and In 2024 I left my job in hospitality suddenly because I wasn't coping physically with the role I was doing. That was the moment I knew what I wanted to do.
That's when Something Profound launched, born from a simple idea: that people with chronic illness and neurodivergent people deserve clothing that truly gets them. Funny, comfortable, ethical clothing that makes you smile, feels good on your skin and doesn't cost the earth — literally or figuratively.
What we stand for
Every design at Something Profound comes from a real place, a story, a memory. Nothing is made up or manufactured for effect — it's all rooted in lived experience. Whether it's the humour of brain fog, the pride of a neurodivergent identity, or the quiet strength of getting through another day with a chronic illness, our chronic illness clothing and neurodivergent slogan tees say the things we all think but don't always say out loud.
We work exclusively with disabled and neurodivergent creators on our collaboration collections — because the best designs come from people who truly live this experience. Every collaboration is a genuine partnership, not just a business transaction but a friendship and allyship!
Our clothing is mostly made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton by Stanley/Stella — soft, breathable and kind to sensory-sensitive skin and if its not 100% cotton it's a recycled fabric. Every piece is Fair Wear certified, PETA approved vegan and Oeko-Tex certified. Feeling good should never come at someone else's expense.
The woman behind the brand
Something Profound is just me — Sam — with enormous support from my husband and family who keep me going on the hard days. My Husband, kids, Dad and Aunties can be seen at events I do because their support is incredible! There's no big team, no corporate office, no faceless brand machine. Just a Northumbrian and her support system living with MS, a passion for design and a deep belief that the chronic illness and neurodivergent community deserves to be celebrated.
When you buy from Something Profound, you're buying from someone who genuinely gets it. And that will never change.
Something Profound is proudly disabled-owned, independently run and based in Seahouses, Northumberland. Every purchase directly supports a small business with a big heart.
